all that remains

This was the first of a series of projects – all that remains, time, mutepast imperfect,  it’s not just black and white  –  made in response to a residency at a local hospital undergoing re-development.  I focused on a disused block of wards that had been closed for many years and ‘frozen’ in time. In a state of limbo, between demolition and regeneration, these buildings displayed evidence of absence and presence and a blurring of boundaries and identity, that visually represented death and loss to me.   Moving around the wards, with all their highly emotive traces of medical technology, clinical furnishings, life and death, triggered an engagement with distant thoughts and images and a curious and sinister sense of things displaced.
