Like a lot of things, I can’t put into words how much its surprised and meant to me, that this busy and generous academic dynamo has chosen to spend time thinking about her subject and interest through the lens of my practice.
Lesel conlcudes her article confirming that art ..’evolves not in a single trajectory of emotion or sensation, but often in a pressure cooker of multilayered, entangled feelings, and is thus sometimes able to capture the complexity of lived experience before it is smoothed out into narratives. Art thus becomes a place in which grief’s ambiguity and ambivalence is accommodated rather than resolved, creating a space where the presence of the dead can be shared and made visible.’
My current ‘question’ is whether I need to find the smoothed out narratives – or whether I can let go and trust the process, and that my practice, which draws on all my lived expereince, is entangled and multi-layered, not only within me but within everything I’ve encountered!
